What Are Laser Eye Procedures

Laser eye procedures use focused light energy to treat specific areas of the eye without incisions or traditional surgery. These treatments are quick, highly controlled, and designed to address specific concerns such as eye pressure or vision clarity. Because they are performed in-office, most patients experience little to no downtime and can return to their normal routine shortly after.

SLT Laser Treatment for Glaucoma

Glaucoma is often associated with elevated intraocular pressure, which can damage the optic nerve if not properly managed. This pressure builds when the eye’s natural drainage system does not function as efficiently as it should.

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT) is a targeted treatment designed to improve this drainage. The laser is applied to the drainage tissue inside the eye, stimulating a biological response that helps the system work more effectively. As fluid flows out more easily, the pressure inside the eye decreases.

SLT is performed in the office and does not require incisions or traditional surgery. The procedure typically takes only a few minutes and is well tolerated by most patients.

YAG Laser After Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery replaces the eye’s natural lens with a clear artificial lens, restoring vision. However, in some patients, the thin membrane that supports the new lens can become cloudy over time. This condition can cause vision to appear hazy, similar to the symptoms of an original cataract.

This is not a recurrence of the cataract, but rather a change in the membrane behind the lens that affects how light passes through the eye.

YAG laser treatment is used to create a small opening in the cloudy membrane, allowing light to pass through again. The procedure is painless and performed in the office, usually taking only a few minutes. Most patients notice an improvement in vision shortly after treatment.
