A new, highly sophisticated computerized instrument now allows us to provide you with a more thorough medical analysis of your eyes. The digital retinal image system captures an image of the retina (the back of your eye). This procedure assists the doctor in early detection of many disorders, including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, retinal detachments, and other vision-threatening conditions. The images will be reviewed with you today and then stored in our computer system to compare with future images. This allows the doctor to observe even the slightest amount of change from the previous procedure.
Retinal images help us to keep an accurate record of your visual health over time and are especially important for people who have:
- Macular Degeneration or a family history
- Headaches
- Floaters or Flashes
- Diabetes or a family history
- Glaucoma or a family history
- High blood pressure or a family history
- High cholesterol
- New patient base line
There is an additional charge of $39.00 for this procedure because your insurance is designed to cover only the basic eye exam and does not cover advanced tools, such as digital retinal screening.
Our eye doctors recommend that patients have a digital retinal screening annually.
